We believe topics like teamwork and leadership can only be taught though hands-on experiential learning methods. Our Workshops and Trainings specialize in staff, team and leadership development through unique, interactive and applicable experiences. With 25 years of experience and resources within San Francisco State University , our curriculum combines current theories, research and practical experience with interactive cooperative activities. PLI delivers trainings throughout the State for thousands of participants annually.

 

A specific workshop can be tailored to meet your organizational and staff development needs customized in the following areas:

PLI also offers a series of ongoing, predetermined trainings each year to meet your needs.

 

  Challenge Course Leadership

The Fort Miley Adventure Challenge Course is a resource for the community including outdoor experiences and leadership opportunities. Now, more than ever, we need people who take these important skills into our communities. There are two ways to be involved and become trained as a leader on our course.

 
  1. On-Course Training Internship By arrangement
 

By committing the time and energy to lead our programs, a minimum of 6 days, we can train you on the course with the technical and interpersonal skills needed to be a leader. To get more information or a volunteer registration packet, please contact our office.

 
  2. Advanced Challenge Course Leadership March 29-30, 2008
 

This advanced training goes beyond the basics of setting up and operating a course to the leadership theory, sequencing and facilitation required to be an effective leader. This training uses the challenge course as a metaphor for teaching leadership, enhance your leadership, and build adventure into your work and life. This workshop will include one evening session and two weekend days. Additionally, curriculum booklet and opportunities to lead are included. Advanced Challenge Course Leadership training costs $200.00 per person (scholarships are available). Contact the PLI office for details and registration.

  3. Art of Play Leadership May 10, 2008 @ SFSU
 

Learn about the true power of play and how it relates to quality of life are the basic principles and activities offered enhance the energy level of your program and staff. This training illustrates the 8 basic principles of play leadership and offers up to 20 of our best activities and games. The training will include hand-outs and descriptions of these activities along with helpful dialog about how to make the best use of the material. Cost is $40 per participant.   4. PLI Camping: Community Orientated Policing May 29-31, 2007
 

PLI collaborates with the California State Parks, Office of Community Involvement to offer the PLI Camping trainings and programs connecting non-traditional users with our parks to host facilitated family/group camping trips. PLI Camping provides camp sites and gear for families and groups to enjoy the thrill of camping in our state parks. Together we will offer three trainings in Northern and Southern California this spring (2006), preparing and connecting community-based organizations, parks and rangers with the skills and opportunities to access the PLI Camping Program.   5. Outdoor Youth Connection (OYC) - Youth Based Trainings Feb - June, 2008
 

OYC is a collaborative effort between California State Parks , California State Parks Foundation and the Pacific Leadership Institute with funding provided by the Stewardship Council. This collaborative accelerates resources to get youth, 15 18 years of age from 4 California counties ( Oakland , Sacramento, San Francisco and Stockton) outdoors and empower them to be active and develop their lifelong leadership skills.

The Outdoor Youth Connection's goals are to: 1) Expose youth to several outdoors activities and recreational pursuits at our trainings in state parks, 2) Teach essential leadership skills for engagement in outdoor programs and their community, and 3) Offer training, support & opportunities for participants to lead their own trips and require they organize and lead one Outdoor Outing and one Community Service project/event for their community with scholarships available, outdoor equipment and connections to a network full of resource.
