Challenge Coureses

Challenge Courses (or ropes courses) are a progression of low team-based elements and high challenge elements built in the trees using cables, ladders and ropes. These “elements” use physical, emotional and mental challenges that employ both human and rope safety systems to encourage team development, support, trust, leadership and personal goal-setting.

Since 1979 our flagship program, the Fort Miley Adventure Challenge Course has operated a ropes course located in the “Lands End” area of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.  Our programs foster a fun, safe and positive environment in which individuals and groups may work together to develop confidence, trust, support, communication, cooperation and leadership skills. We have over 40 elements to choose from and can tailor programs to meet specific organizational goals. Our programs use accredited safety systems and standards, and includes well-trained leaders to facilitate a fun, supportive and inspiring adventure with a positive message.

We schedule private group courses seven days week, year-round for groups from 10 to 100. Program costs depend on the range of participants, group affiliation and program length/depth. We do not charge per person but a basic formula to estimate the cost of a course is as follows:

Programs prices are based on a range of participants roughly based on the following scale:

  • $30 - $50 per youth and community groups
  • $40 - $70 per for community staff events and private groups
  • $50 - $120 per for business and corporate groups

To Prepare for the Course

  • We operate a complete outdoor facility built in a grove of trees on a 4 acre hillside on the edge of the Pacific Ocean in SF.  Be ready to be outside the entire time.
  • Quite possibly the coldest place in all of the Bay Area means you must dress warm and bring layers of clothes for this outdoor facility.  Have long pants, bring a jacket, beanie hat and gloves to keep warm.
  • We do not provide any food or beverages with our programs and do not even have a drinking fountain on the site.

Policies

  • Require a minimum of two weeks notice to reserve a program
  • Ask for an invoice and a $200 deposit to reserve a day
  • All participants must have a completed release form in order to participate (signed by a parent or guardian if under 18 years)
  • Minimum age is 10 years old
